We're Kind of a Big Deal

Our Mission

First Basin Credit Union will do whatever it takes to exceed members' expectations by providing professional financial solutions that place members' needs first.

It's been a long time coming

In 1965, we planted the seed to our credit union in the basement of Medical Center Hospital. Originally named "Medical Center Employees Credit Union", we served a small group of the medical community for more than 30 years. Year in and year out, our members would turn to us for their financial needs. Then, we decided it was time to think bigger.

We became “Medical Center Credit Union” in 1988 and expanded membership to include more employee groups. After merging with the Ector County Employees Credit Union in 1991 and continuing to expand, we were still a small organization in 1995 - with two Odessa branches and fewer than 20 employees, many of whom are still with us today.

In 1996, we became Medical Community Credit Union (MCCU), serving 7,500 members with $28 million in assets. Our membership increased once again in 1999 when Medical Community Credit Union merged with Neighborhood Credit Union. As we entered the new millennium, we had $46 million in assets and more than 14,000 loyal members. We grew to include new counties, acquired new leadership and expanded our services.

Things kept getting better

By 2004 MCCU was serving 16 counties across the Permian Basin.

We continued to branch out to include more of West Texas and in 2005, we blossomed into “First Basin Credit Union” – a name that reflects us being the financial partner to more than 25,000 members in 17 counties. We expanded our membership to the South Plains in 2016 and opened our doors for the first time in Lubbock. We were welcomed into this new market and have been exposed to a prosperous membership that has allowed First Basin the opportunity to flourish in the South Plains.

First Basin continues to thrive, proudly serve our members and contribute to the community by supporting more than 40 nonprofit organizations. To support our commitment to youth, area schools and universities, First Basin became an Exclusive Partner of UT Permian Basin Athletics in 2018 and a Corporate Partner of Texas Tech University in 2019.

A New Chapter

In 2019, First Basin began one of the most significant chapters of the institution’s history with the groundbreaking and ensuing construction of the new FBCU Corporate Headquarters Office. The 64,000 square-foot, four story building in the prestigious Parks Legado Town Center in Odessa, would provide necessary office space and expanded member service for years to come.

it's hero time

The doors to our new corporate headquarters opened in April 2021. For the first time in decades, First Basin now features a single facility with sufficient workspace so that all of the FBCU senior management team and support staff will work under one roof. The full-service branch features an expansive eight lane drive-thru with a dedicated commercial lane, premier technology, a member service café, and a spacious Community Room to support the meeting and training needs of First Basin and our local non-profit organizations.

Thank you, to our members and the community, for allowing First Basin to show you what first feels like for more than 55 years. We look forward to continuing to be a partner in the financial lives of our members by continuing to provide the highest degree of service and products.

Everything is bigger in Texas - including our field of membership.
